I AM an artist/art collector from the South Side of Chicago. Growing up as a child in the 70s and the early 1980s, I was always passionate about art, especially creating art as a means of escaping reality into a world where possibilities are endless with an active imagination. Now in my adulthood, art reflects this same attitude of escape and imagination especially as I have transitioned into collecting works of art by my peers. Art is a means of conveying in an image what may seem impossible to convey through written language. People who have been exposed to the arts are often times more well-rounded individuals, highly capable of critical thinking, self-reflection, and possessing a broader world perspective and a universal connection to people in general. As a member of Diasporal Rhythms, I hope to educate more individuals about collecting art and its important role in shaping a community so that the individuals fulfill their purpose to become divinely created tools to help build a solid foundation on which the community can grow.
“I became a member of Diasporal Rhythms to spread the message that there is an artist community here on the South Side of Chicago and that our work is relevant.” –MSA
